Canadian Yoga School Stretches To New Heights
It is no secret that Vancouver, B.C. is a hot bed of Yoga activity. A well known British Columbian yoga studio, Prana Yoga and Zen Centre has just made history by becoming fully accredited as a college. The first Yoga Teacher Training Organization in the world (outside of India), this designation took over three years to achieve. This important step highlights the accepted popularity of yoga training and the serious level of instruction available to students of this particular program. To reflect its recently acquired status, the newly renamed Prana Yoga Teacher College will be offering its first program carrying the post secondary designation, effective this coming September. The accredited and expanded three month program will cover more than 500 hours of material, much of it in a practical, hands on environment. Already regarded as one of the most comprehensive yoga teacher training programs in the world, Prana Yoga continues to set new standards in producing highly sought after yoga teachers around the globe.
Established by shakti mhi in 1982, the original Prana Yoga Teacher Training program was the first of its kind to be accredited with PCTIA (Private Career Training Institutions Agency). Widely regarded as a pioneering force behind yoga popularity in Vancouver, shakti is a former board member of YABC (the Yoga Association of British Columbia). In addition, shakti mhi is a celebrated teacher, author, lecturer and co-author, with her partner Armand Sagredo, of a best selling yoga DVD "The Yoga Experience."
In addition to shakti's lead and guidance this fall, the Prana Yoga Teacher College program will feature a number of highly experienced teachers, both local and international. Gently defiant of the many new trends and permutations of the practice, the Prana Yoga teaching style is based on classical Hatha Yoga, the original 5000 year old yoga system.
"We are immensely thrilled to be able to offer this powerful program to students across the globe. Additionally, Canadian students will soon be able to obtain financial assistance whilst undertaking their training with us. This is really an amazing moment for yoga in Canada. It's a culmination of many years of work and dedication to the practice" said the co creator of the new college, Jolene Bayda, in an interview.
